Audition Notice: DEAR RUTH at Plaza Theatre Company

Tuesday July 9th between the hours of 7pm and 10pm

Plaza Theatre Company – 111 S. Main St, Cleburne, TX

Auditions are by appointment only. Audition appointments can be made by clicking here or by calling the Plaza Theatre Box Office at 817-202-0600. The audition will be held at Plaza Academy at 221 S. Mill Street (1 block from the theatre)

The show will be Directed by Taffy Geisel with Stage Management by Emily Warwick.

Those auditioning are asked to come prepared to read cold from the script from sides of the Directors choosing. Additionally, the Director may ask those auditioning to improvise at the audition. The Director will spend around five minutes with each potential cast member at this initial audition.

A call back audition will be held on Saturday July 13th at 9am. Those who the Director wishes to see further will be invited to the call back audition which may last up to 2 hours time. The production will play on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings and Saturday afternoons opening on September 13th thru October 5th. Rehearsals will commence following casting and will take place Monday thru Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings until opening. No Sunday rehearsals or performances.

During WWII, a young girl carries on a romantic correspondence with an overseas soldier while signing the name of her unwitting older sister. The soldier returns to finds that his pen-pal is already engaged, to another guy! After a series of lively complications and plot twists, the older sister becomes convinced that her first engagement was a mistake and decides to marry the soldier anyway.

Plaza Theatre Company is a 158 seat theatre-in-the-round located at 111 S. Main in Cleburne, TX. The Company produces 10 shows a year usually in the style of family-friendly comedies and musicals. PlazaCo opened in November of 2006 and is currently producing it’s 61st show. The Company has been the proud recipient of over 48 Column Awards including winning “Best Musical” in 2009, 2010 and 2012 in addition to recently being named “Best Theatre Group” by the WFAA A-List for 2011. Mrs. Edith Wilkins – The mother – early to mid 50’s. A little dithery but very, very nice.
Miriam Wilkins – The little sister – adorable teenager (age 13-15).
Judge Harry Wilkins – The father – bossy, blustery but with a heart of gold.
Ruth Wilkins – The big sister – pretty, romantic – late teens to early 20’s.
Lt. William Seawright – The soldier – early to mid 20’s. A bit dreamy-eyed.
Albert Kummer – Stuffed shirt fiancé of Ruth but will never get the girl – mid 20’s to early 30’s.
Martha Seawright – Eccentric sister of William – skilled comic early to mid 20’s.
Sgt. Chuck Vincent – Soldier – early to mid 20’s – straight shooter best pal of William.
Harold Kobbermeyer – Young sailor – early 20’s.

Summer Has Arrived – And Plaza Academy’s Summer Show Camps Are Right Around The Corner

Summer with Plaza Academy at Plaza Theatre Company is always a blast! And 2013 will no no exception. With three fantastic camps available, we’ve got something for everyone. Read on for classes and descriptions.

Teen Show Camp


Teens will love this theatre intensive, performance based summer camp! For two weeks, students will receive core class instruction in music, acting and dance. Mini classes offer a wide range of theatre education for aspiring young performers– including stage combat, theatre make-up, costume design, technical theatre, dialects and improv. The best part about the camp is that your teen will be able to apply what they’ve learned when they perform in the cast of Plaza Theatre Company’s production of BYE BYE BIRDIE!

Ages: 13-18

June 17-28 (M-F, 9am-3pm)

Performances: June 28th-August 3rd

Tuition: $200


Youth Show Camp

Plaza Academy School House Rock Live Jr.In this unforgettable two week summer camp, students will have fun filled mornings of dance, music, and acting classes. Afternoons will be spent in workshops and rehearsing for their very own performance of Disney’s THE JUNGLE BOOK KIDS! Students will have a great time making new friends while learning theatre skills they will keep the rest of their lives.

Ages: 8-12

July 8 – 19 (M-F, 9am-3pm)

Performances: July 20 -30

Tuition: $200


Dance Camp

This two week dance intensive camp is a fun and active way for your student to spend their summer energy! Whether a beginner or an advanced dancer, students will receive training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary dance. Instruction in dance history and theory will also be taught. Students will perform what they have learned in an end of camp recital.

Ages: 12-18
July 22 – August 2nd,
(M-F, 9am-3pm)

Recital August 2nd @ 3:30pm
Tuition: $175
